We’ve been living in Bali for 8 years, and one specialty that Balinese does really well is their natural remedy – Jamu. Combining turmeric, ginger and lemon, jamu is an immune boosting elixir for all sorts of physical ailments. From common cold, heart disease to impotence, jamu is the Balinese answer to any illness (besides temple ceremony and prayer!)

Today, we are sharing the Turmeric Ginger Probiotic Mocktail vegan juice recipe with you from our Bali Vegan Cookbook.

KUNYIT/TURMERIC/CURCUMA LONGA | When my mother used to ask me what I wanted to eat for my birthday, the answer was always nasi kuning. She knew the answer, but it was our birthday ritual. 40 years later, nasi kuning is still one of my all time favourites. Nasi kuning is an Indonesian coconut rice dish flavoured and coloured yellow with kunyit. It is served during special occasions across the Indonesian archipelago.

Health Benefits of Turmeric and Probiotic

Turmeric and especially its most active compound curcumjn is known to help prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer.

Curcumjn is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It can also help improve symptoms of depression and arthritis. Moreover, turmeric is incredible at removing heavy metals such as arsenic, nickel, cadmium, mercury, aluminum and lead.
